Is that time of the year again when we buy pumpkins to carve and try making them look as scary as possible but, we only end up throwing them away later.

Halloween origins

Halloween origins come back from approximately 2,000 years ago the Celts, in the region that now is known as Ireland and U.K. to frighten away Jack’s wondering soul. So this is not an american tradition, it is beveled that Irish and Scottish immigrants have brought this tradition in US in the 19th century.

Why do we throw pumpkins away?

More than 20m pumpkins are destined for food waste but why? Well the answer is not that complicated, most of the people that buy pumpkins throw them away because they serve the main purpose, others think is not edible.

Are pumpkins edible?

Hell yes, but they don’t taste as good as those that are grown for eating. Pumpkins usually contain more than 10 vitamins and mineral so is a really healthy source of vegetable.

A simple search can give you hundreds of recipes that can transform an ugly and scary Halloween pumpkin into a delicious meal. My favorite is pumpkin pie which i baked few weeks ago (my way) and it was yummy. There are plenty of ideas there from a pumpkin soup to a delicious desert. I’m not a very good chef so i look up online for few recipes and i found 2 websites with more than 40 recipes each, link 1, link 2.
